Coppa Italia 2025/26
Fiorentina and Como locked horns in a competitive Coppa Italia encounter on January 27, 2026. Both sides showcased periods of promising build-up play, seeking to assert dominance and create scoring opportunities in this crucial cup tie.
Fiorentina controlled a notable share of possession throughout the opening phase, utilizing their passing game to probe the Como defense. Their build-up play often looked to exploit wider areas, evidenced by their nine crosses, though only two found their target. The team generated an expected goals figure of 0.53, suggesting they were creating chances of reasonable quality. Despite facing 21 dribbles from the opposition, Fiorentina's defensive efforts saw them win 11 tackles and make 22 clearances, indicating a solid defensive shape.
The Viola's attacking strategy involved 33 passes into the final third, demonstrating a clear intent to progress the ball into dangerous areas. They managed four shots on target from their attempts, a figure that could have been higher given their 67 attacks. Key passes were limited to four, highlighting a need for more decisive final balls to unlock the Como backline. However, the team's ability to retain possession and build patiently was a recurring theme in their approach.
Como demonstrated resilience, weathering periods of Fiorentina pressure and working to establish their own rhythm in possession. Their expected goals figure stood at a modest level, suggesting that while they were involved in the game, clear-cut chances were at a premium. The team's defensive actions were crucial, with numerous tackles and clearances aimed at stifling Fiorentina's attacking forays. They also managed to win 15 aerial duels, indicating a physical presence in key duels.
Despite creating two big chances, Fiorentina were unable to convert these into goals, a common frustration for attacking sides. Their 0.26 expected assists figure points to a struggle in providing the final killer pass to their forwards. The match statistics reveal a tactical battle where both teams had moments, but Fiorentina's inability to capitalize on their possession and attacking statistics ultimately defined their inability to find the back of the net. The game remained a tight affair.
