LaLiga action unfolded as Real Madrid hosted Real Betis in a 2025/26 encounter. The Santiago Bernabéu was the stage for a contest where both sides aimed to assert dominance and secure vital league points early in the new year.
Real Madrid controlled the tempo for significant periods, enjoying a 61% possession advantage throughout the match. Their build-up play saw them progress the ball effectively into the opposition half, evidenced by 338 passes compared to Betis's likely lower figure. The home side's attacking intent was clear, generating an expected goals (xG) figure of 2.94, indicating a high volume of quality chances created. They managed nine shots on target, testing the Real Betis defense and goalkeeper Álvaro Valles.
The attacking pressure from Real Madrid was further highlighted by their creation of six big chances. Their offensive strategy involved a significant number of crosses, with 5 successful attempts from 15 attempted, suggesting a desire to exploit wide areas. While the final scoreline is not provided, the statistical indicators point towards a match where Real Madrid dictated play and consistently threatened the opposition goal, creating a palpable sense of attacking intent.
Despite Real Madrid's statistical superiority in expected goals and big chances created, Real Betis demonstrated resilience. The defensive unit, marshaled by players like Marc Bartra and Natan, worked to contain Madrid's potent attack. While detailed defensive statistics for Betis are not fully provided, their ability to stay in the contest implies organized defending and a commitment to limiting clear-cut opportunities for the likes of Vinicius Júnior and Jude Bellingham.
Real Madrid's 2.94 expected goals figure, coupled with nine shots on target, suggests that while they created opportunities, converting them into goals might have been the challenge. The team's ability to make 14 key passes indicates intelligent distribution, but the final product required more precision. The match statistics reveal a contest where Madrid pressed hard, but Betis's defensive structure and perhaps some crucial saves from Valles kept them in the game.
The overall tactical battle saw Real Madrid striving to break down a determined Real Betis. Madrid's 586 successful passes underscore their control in possession, yet the game remained a tense affair. The visitors, likely relying on counter-attacking opportunities and set pieces, would have aimed to capitalize on any defensive lapses from the home side, making for a compelling LaLiga fixture.
